Abstract: Highlights•We conduct data-driven approaches to distinguishing political orientations and news outlets in South Korea.•Three machine learning techniques with the ensemble methods are employed.•With about 51,000 national defense-related news articles, 91.9% (political orientations) and 84.0% (news outlets) are achieved.
