Abstract: The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is specified as the cipher algorithm in IEEE 802.15.4 protocol and other industrial wireless networks protocols based on IEEE 802.15.4. But the huge computation overhead of the traditional AES implementations makes AES hard to be performed on the resource-constrained industrial wireless nodes. Although the software implementations based on 4 lookup tables and the AES accelerator on the radio chips can reduce the computation time significantly, the large storage overhead of the 4 lookup tables and the additional energy of the accelerators are still heavy burdens. This paper presents a fast AES implementation 1-T based on a 2*256 bytes lookup table. Compared to the implementations based on 4 lookup tables or accelerator, 1-T's storage overhead is 0.28 and 2.50 times of theirs, and the computation time is 1.43 and 0.45 times of theirs.
