Abstract: Highlights•TO-GWO is an alternative discrete optimization algorithm for permutation coded optimization problem.•The proposed algorithm is developed by using three transformation operators: swap, shift and symmetry.•To improve the performance, 2-opt is also incorporated with TOGWO.•The performance of TO-GWO is tested over 50 TSP instances taken from TSPLIB.•The results of TO-GWO are compared with 12 state-of-the-art algorithms.
