Abstract: The paper deals with the set of medieval urbanonyms (street and square names) acquired from the oldest city books and from the legal documents, especially deeds, written in the 14th and 15th century. The author offers some new explanations of urbanonyms: especially the urbanonyms that seem to be clear, but their motivation is not in accordance with the natural state of named places (e.g. in foro superiori ‘in the Upper Square’, in foro inferiori ‘in the Lower Square’, in Vorlorengassen ‘in the Lost Street’). The author presents also some arguments for German (non-Slavic) origin of the name Olomouc.
