Abstract: As more university efforts rely on Scholars@Duke (VIVO) to collect and reshare data, we are coming to understand what it will take to support the next generation of this research information system at Duke University. Scholars@Duke has helped steer university-wide conversations and expectations around linked data, data ownership & privacy, external data sources, system integrations, and access controls. In this presentation I will discuss how our approach to each of these subtopics has evolved: 1. Linked Data - The pros and cons of promoting linked data 2. Data Ownership & Privacy - Aligning with university policies on data collection and sharing 3. External Data Sources - How Zotero, Pubmed, and Research Organization Registry are transforming the way we work 4. System Integrations - Getting in the weeds yet keeping the big picture in mind 5. Data Access - Identifying who really needs this data and how I will also share practical examples of groups that we engage with and the benefit of identifying a variety of stakeholders.
