A Survey on the Factors Causing Job Burnout among Nine-Year Compulsory Education Teachers and Teachers in After-School Training Agencies in China
Abstract: China has one of the most large-scale educational system around the world. In recent years, teacher burnout has become a hot topic in academic circles. Teacher burnout is caused by many factors. If the degree of burnout is too large, it will even affect the teachers themselves and the students. It should be noted that in China, students not only have to attend classes at school, but parents who hope that their children will succeed also send their children to extracurricular training institutions to improve their grades. Therefore, it is very important to study the factors that lead to job burnout of institutional teachers. We distribute online electronic questionnaires to primary school teachers in schools or educational institutions in all provinces across the country, and a total of 107 valid questionnaires are collected. Based on the MBI-GS scale, Big Five personality scale and environmental factors questionnaire, this article uses a multilinear model to analyze the factors influencing teacher burnout, and compares job burnout between teachers in schools and those in educational institutions. The results show that (1) in the dimension of personality, sense of responsibility can significantly increase the degree of job burnout, and rigor can significantly reduce the degree of job burnout; (2) in the dimension of work environment, “I have the right to choose my own students” can significantly increase job burnout degree; (3) There are occupational differences in job burnout, and the degree of burnout of in-service teachers in school is higher than that of in-service teachers in educational institutions.
