Abstract: Abstract In information retrieval systems, the system interpretation of keywords in a query may not be the same as intended by the user due to the ambiguity in the meanings of different words in natural languages. Conceptual queries solve this problem by creating a semantic representation of each concept relevant to the user. In these queries, a set of keywords provide the representation for each concept. However, the specification of keywords and their relationship for each concept makes it difficult for a user to formulate these queries. In this paper, we present a technique based on knowledge acquisition that elicits the concepts and some examples of the documents relevant to those concepts. A representation of each concept is then developed to be used for query. The system is experimentally validated and evaluated.
