Using STEM to Improve Computer Programming Teaching

Abstract: Teaching has always been a challenging task, as trying others to correctly assimilate what we already know as granted is a difficult mission. Specialty when teaching programming skills, that require a very particular way of though, teaching can arise as a frustrating task sometimes. Student’s do not always get motivated and easily loose interest when not having results. Using Stem (science technology, engineering and maths) to teach programming skills can then be a factor of motivation and success. There are several stem projects that can be widely applied to teaching. In this work, we present some projects available in Portugal, and some results about their implementation in teaching programming skills in secondary level grade students.
