Abstract: The exploitation of human labor, art, and culture without consent has been a longstanding pattern of oppression throughout the history of colonized societies. This has had a significant impact on the development of Africa during and after colonialism, and continues to play a role in the production of generative AI. This pattern is not only historical, but serves as a prototype of all future AI harm. This paper aims to examine how the arguments presented in the "decolonizing AI" movement can highlight the negative effects, biases, and risks associated with creating, using, and regulating generative AI, and how we can address these issues moving forward.
