Abstract: Highlights•The new 3D hyper-chaotic mapping is proposed and used in the image watermarking algorithm to improve the security.•The Cauchy distribution of QDCT coefficients is used to estimate the geometric distortion parameters to enhance the robustness.•MLP is introduced into the image watermarking algorithm so that more possibilities for model selection are provided.
