Abstract: Highlights•We propose a direct yet effective reference-then-supervision framework for IVIF.•We develop both automatic and handpicked procedures to yielding supervision for IVIF.•We release a fusion benchmark dataset with supervision images, termed IVSI.•The fusion method using our proposed framework outperforms the state-of-the-art.
