Abstract: Expressway closures for reconstruction and expansion can significantly impact surrounding traffic by diverting vehicles to other roadways. To assess the impact, our attention is centered on the Shandong Rizhao section of the Shenhai Expressway, which is currently under reconstruction and is operating in a semi-closed manner. The semi-closed condition implies that one side of the road is blocked, and vehicles in this direction are required to take alternative routes. We model the road networks, and analyze the traffic flow change before and after expressway closure for reconstruction and expansion. We also refine the 3D visualization of the traffic environment during construction, allowing for a more intuitive observation of traffic conditions. To verify the accuracy of the simulation model, we compare the simulation data with real traffic data during the construction period. The results reveal a strong correlation between the simulated and real traffic flows, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in capturing the impact of expressway construction on surrounding road traffic and offering valuable support for decision-making.
