An efficient and reliable coarse-to-fine approach for asphalt pavement crack detection

Abstract: Highlights•A coarse-to-fine asphalt pavement crack detection approach is developed.•A new description of the cracks is proposed based on the spatially clustered pixels.•An improved adaptive thresholding method is presented for image segmentation.•A new concept Region of Belief (ROB) is introduced to facilitate the detection.•A novel region growing algorithm is propounded for the crack detection.
