Abstract: Highlights•A direct slicing technique is proposed for the 3D printing of implicitly represented medical models.•Proposed method has a great improvement in both time and space performance compared with the conventional slicing method.•Proposed technique uses discrete volume data as a direct model input for additive manufacturing without conversion to STL.
