SimTreeLS: Simulating aerial and terrestrial laser scans of trees

Abstract: Highlights•The presented software tool simulates LiDAR scans of trees in orchards or forestry.•Tree shape definition can be easily customised generated to suit their application.•Custom parameters and trajectories allow the simulation of a range of experiments.•Outputs are evaluated for their similarity to real data, with promising results.•Several application areas are explored to justify the use of simulated data.
