Abstract: Highlights•A custom optical neuroimaging instrument was used to image malnourished children.•Data quality in study matches data collected across other instruments and subjects.•Evoked responses to sensory stimulation match prior optical neuroimaging results.•Activation overlap reduces when optical measurement density reduced.•Sensitivity to distributed brain function was demonstrated with functional connectivity.
