Abstract: Highlights•The paper presents a general framework for multi-patch Reissner-Mindlin shell structures topology optimization based on IGA-SIMP method.•C0 continuity is ensured by patch splitting and reparameterization along interfaces, ensuring unique displacement and density distribution.•Numerical experiments confirm the algorithm’s robustness and effectiveness for complex shell structures with both conforming and non-conforming patches.
