Short Summary: We describe the design principles that underpin a set of introductory AI classroom lessons for 11 to 14-year-old students that have been delivered in England and are now being translated for use internationally. Design principles include careful learning objective design, using the SEAME model, avoiding anthropomorphism, developing a core vocabulary, incorporating Computational Thinking 2.0, threading real-world examples throughout, using semantic profiling to link everyday language to technical language and everyday contexts to abstract understanding for explanations and lesson design, and increased teacher support materials. An independent evaluation of the Experience AI initiative is underway with early promising results.
