Shadow Compensation for Aerial Images using Statistical Color Tuning

Abstract: This study proposes a shadow compensation method for aerial images based on color feature tuning. The information from shadow-free regions is used to improve the image quality of the shadowed regions. The shadow compensation of a shadowed pixel is obtained by performing statistical feature correction on channel V of HSV color space. Considering the challenging aerial images used in the experiment, the qualitative results of the shadow removal are reasonably acceptable.
