TL;DR: This review explores the potential of quantum computing, particularly quantum annealing and gate-based approaches, in revolutionizing drug discovery.
Abstract: Classical computers face significant challenges when dealing with NP problems, especially given the unresolved question of whether NP equals P. Quantum computing, on the other hand, shows promise in addressing these challenges through principles like superposition and entanglement. These principles enable parallel processing and exponential speedup in computations. One area where quantum advantage could be clear is drug discovery. In this review, we delve into quantum computing's role in drug discovery, emphasizing quantum annealing and gate-based approaches. We explore current advancements, challenges, and recommendations, highlighting research gaps that may guide future innovations in the field.
