Abstract: In this paper we take a practical look at the design of the physical layer for multi-gigabit communication systems in the 60GHz band. We consider and compare different modulation options, while considering the regulatory as well as practical design aspects, such as the complexity of equalization and coding, requirements on the performance of the Power Amplifier (PA) and the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) and Analog to Digital Converter (ADC).
