Abstract: Highlights•Two-scale image decomposition is used to decompose source images.•A novel fusion rule is proposed to fuse detail layers.•The fusion rules designed are excellent in preservation of detailed information.•Our method significantly reduces artifacts at the focus boundary.•Experimental results demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of our method.
