An objective comparison of methods for augmented reality in laparoscopic liver resection by preoperative-to-intraoperative image fusion from the MICCAI2022 challenge

Abstract: Highlights•Automated landmark detection for 3D-to-2D registration in liver laparoscopy explored.•Data from 11 patients includes 3D models, laparoscopic images, and camera parameters.•Landmark detection quality and registration accuracy were assessed in two phases.•Six team methods were assessed based on which we propose three key hypotheses.•Three hypotheses from results highlight limitations and future research for AR in LLR.
