Analysis and Prediction of Influencing Factors of English Learning Anxiety Based on LSTM and Attention

Abstract: Through the self-administered questionnaire adapted from Horwitz's Foreign Language Class Anxiety Scale, this research examines 191 English major undergraduates’ English learning anxiety and its possible impacting factors in a certain private college. The results show that the overall anxiety level of English majors in Chinese private colleges is relatively serious. Additionally, test anxiety is noticeable. The findings indicate that age and learning background are the key factors that impact English learning anxiety. However, there is no significant correlation between gender, proficiency level, and English learning anxiety statistically in this study. In addition, we proposed an English learning anxiety prediction model (Att-LSTM) based on LSTM with attention. Experimental results show that Att-LSTM has excellent prediction performance, which will help teachers improve teaching and alleviate students' anxiety.
