Collaborating with top scientists may not improve paper novelty: A causal analysis based on the propensity score matching method
Abstract: Highlights•We employ the PSM method to explore the causal relationship between collaboration with top scientists and novelty.•We consider the attributes of the citation network as potential confounding factors to reduce the selection bias.•We delve into the treatment effect of intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration modes.•We find that collaboration with top scientists has a negative impact on the novelty of papers.
