Abstract: This special issue reports the advances in pattern recognition theory and applications, particularly, the basic issues of pattern classification and image analysis and their applications. The selected articles address image feature representation, contextual pattern analysis, compact low-rank sparse representation for abnormal event detection in video, customer churn prediction using ensemble learning, online text-independent writer identification using deep convolutional neural network, image depth ordering reasoning, and brain MR image tumor segmentation, respectively.
