Abstract: We developed a phosphene vision simulator to assist in the development of image processing strategies for implementation in visual prosthetics. This simulation runs on a mobile phone, which can be placed in an AR headset to provide the experience of having prosthetic phosphene vision to individuals with normal vision. This setup allows the participants to experience the future of cortical visual neuroprostheses, while allowing us to evaluate and compare different signal processing algorithms to provide guidelines for the optimal perceptual experience. In this demo we will show how intelligent algorithms can improve the quality of perception with prosthetic vision with an image processing pipeline that allows for accurate emotion expression recognition.
