Abstract: Since more than 30 years digital 3D modelling methods have been used to support research and education about heritage and history. While an investigation on these topics is usually done from a perspective of digital humanities and cultural heritage, I investigate this topic by employing information studies methods from scientometrics, user behaviour research, and information practices. This article shows research questions and key findings from 15 completed studies that are part of an ongoing postdoc thesis work. Incorporated studies report about scholarly communities, usage practices, methodologies, technologies as well as design implications and educational strategies.
