Abstract: With the increasing importance of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, their implications on the propagation of societal biases become more and more relevant. In this context, the analysis of political bias in manually written and automatically generated text is a relatively understudied field. Political bias refers to the preference or prejudice towards one political ideology over another. To increase the discourse in this subject area, we analyze contemporary studies on detecting and mitigating political bias in this literature review. We further discuss the benefits and potential drawbacks of the considered methods and look at the ethical considerations involved with political bias in NLP, before we give suggestions for future studies.
