Tailored Trip: Advanced Route Planning with Personalization Levels in Focus

Abstract: This study addresses the challenge of delivering personalized tourist recommendations by moving beyond the traditional three-tier model of non-personalization, temporary personalization, and permanent personalization. Recognizing that conventional methods in tourism recommendations often fail to meet the nuanced preferences of individual tourists due to their rigid application of personalization levels, we introduce an innovative approach that offers a more granular and dynamic level of personalization. Our method adjusts the personalization level for each tourist spot and dynamically modifies the route personalization based on a blend of popular and user-preferred spots. To validate our approach, we conducted evaluation experiments using tourism history data from Kyoto City, illustrating how our method enhances tourist satisfaction by catering to personal interests.
