Unlocking Operational Clarity: The Integration of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, and Mixed Reality in Production for Enhanced User Transparency

Abstract: The implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) methods in automated production introduces several challenges that must be addressed. Among these challenges is the need for transparency, specifically the need to clarify the decisions made by AI during a production cycle. This issue is being tackled through the use of digital twin and mixed reality approaches. Within an interdisciplinary project funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, these challenges are being explored, and solutions are being developed through industrial lead applications. Beyond these applications and the promised collaborations with industry, the “Center for Industrial AI” will be established at Heilbronn University as a permanent entity to ensure the sustainable dissemination of results.
