Abstract: Highlights•A novel concept based on complex motor imagery tasks is presented.•An incremental training strategy evaluated on two neural networks is proposed.•Performance was compared with baseline methods for complex motor imagery discrimination.•Findings lead to new developments for motor rehabilitation using novel training methods.
