Abstract: Mixed Agreement vs. Case Assignment (MACA) is a phenomenon where agreement and case assignment interact in complex ways, as in North Slavic Numeral–Noun Constructions (NNCs), where the numeral bears the case appropriate for a given position, but the noun is in the genitive in nominative and accusative (and genitive) position, while agreeing with the numeral in other positions. The proposed LFG analysis is based on the idea of case hierarchies (as in Caha's Nanosyntax work) and their LFG encoding proposed within LrFG, but also on the novel idea of modelling case agreement via subsumption rather than via equality.
