Incorporating Nonverbal Expressions into An Embodied Chat Robot

Abstract: Nonverbal expressions which can convey rich social information enable humans more suitable and effective communication. Not only are these expressions deeply rooted in human cognition, but they are also important in Human-Robot Interaction for enhancing trust and familiarity. There are already researches about several nonverbal expressions like gaze and point. However, most existing works focus on one single expression or one specific application. Thus we propose an architecture based on "five minds" to model the process of communication between two agents, which may serve as an inspiration for building an embodied chat robot as our wish.
