TL;DR: We developed a prototype to display open scientometric indicators in research profiles - e.g. VIVO.
Abstract: Many researchers and research institutions wish to quantify the impact their research output has achieved - whether societal or scientific - and incorporate this information into research profile systems. The available data sources usually range from classical citation databases to various providers of so-called alternative metrics (Altmetrics). In the ROSI project we have developed a prototype that collects scientometric data from open data sources such as Paperbuzz and CrossRef Event Data API. In this presentation, we will first explain the iterative development process in which researchers from the humanities, social sciences, engineering and science were asked about their preferences and requirements. This resulted in a prototype that was subjected to a further round of criticism from the disciplines mentioned above, including focus group workshops. The prototype is capable of feeding different types of impact with indicators from different data sources. We will explain the technical setup of the open source application (JavaScript, open APIs, JSON) and demonstrate its features like configuration, customisation and visualization. Finally, we will explain the most important design decisions and show how the ROSI prototype can be used within VIVO.
