Abstract: Highlights•Contrast sensitivity function (CSF), elemental in biological vision, emerges in DNNs.•The visual task that a network is trained to perform critically shapes its CSF.•Low-level tasks capture the human CSF best, but it is also present in high-level tasks.•Human-like CSF appears at several depths of visual features, from early to late layers.
