Abstract: In recent years, comprehensive smart kitchen waste recycling systems have emerged in some urban communities in China. However, there are problems with the human-machine interaction experience, which has led many residents to continue to use traditional waste disposal methods, resulting in poor application results for smart kitchen waste recycling systems. This article takes user needs as the core and proposes five design strategies for smart kitchen waste recycling systems based on the user experience dimension model and feedback from the application of intelligent kitchen waste recycling systems in Chinese communities. The design strategies aim to meet the functional, usability, and pleasure needs. Among them, two design strategies address functional requirements, and three design strategies focus on usability, including the addition of a “bag-breaking” function, the implementation of a multifunctional design, adherence to ergonomic principles, ease of use principles, and consideration of the characteristics of middle-aged and elderly users. The final design strategy aims to improve the reward mechanism to increase user participation and satisfaction.
