A Fractional Digital High-Pass Notch Filter

Abstract: In this paper, a new design method of digital high-pass notch filters is proposed by extending the classical integer order filter to the case of fractional order one. The aim of this extension is to improve the narrowing of the stopband of the first order notch filters through the introduction of a fractional exponent in the transfer function. The resulting filters can be approximately implemented using power series expansion as IIR filters via signal modeling techniques or FIR filters through truncation technique.
