Abstract: Highlights•A genetic algorithm to tackle the Quantum Circuit Compilation Problem is described.•The new coding scheme is one of the key points of the genetic algorithm.•The resulting algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art in standard benchmarks.•We propose a new benchmark with larger and harder instances than previous ones.
