Abstract: The potential of hazardous situations between mariners in conventional manned craft in proximity to other vessels and operating ASVs requires new solutions to improve utilisation of shared waterspace. This paper explores the possibility of combining AIS data and optical satellite imagery to provide exhaustive and near-real-time information to ASVs about surrounding ships.
