Abstract: It is strange to think of a world without color. Color adds profound richness and spectacular variety to the phenomenon of visual experience. This paper explores the latent color space used by artists through various well-known paintings. We compare the paintings’ color spaces by introducing a novel probabilistic divergence to evaluate the separation (divergences) between two paintings in their color spaces. Our results show that there is a significant divergence in color spaces of the works created at different periods of history.
