Abstract: Highlights•Deals with impulse response (IR) measurement in presence of nonlinearities.•Performs multiple linear identifications with excitation multiplied by different gains.•The IR for small signals is obtained by polynomial interpolation of the measured IRs.•The optimal value of the gains and of the number of measurements is derived.
