Abstract: Highlights•A modified security-protection investment game model that integrates the insurance policy is formulated.•A novel insurance policy against epidemic security risks is proposed, based on the designed PDPI (precaution and dynamic post-indemnity) principle.•The effectiveness of the PDPI insurance policy is studied from perspectives of the public and insurer.•Some insurance policies with appropriate premium and insurance fund allocation coefficient can guarantee both lower final epidemic sizes and higher insurer profits.
