Color Comparison Method Using Smartphone Camera

Abstract: This paper proposes a system to compare the difference of color between two parts of a car. It takes the input directly from smartphone camera then extracts values in Lab color space. After that, based on CIEDE2000 formula, the calculated ΔE represents the color difference between two regions. If this number is lower than 1.15, two colors are classified as the same color. Experimental results of five white panels and a real car show that our system achieve accuracy of 100% in identifying the same and different pairs of color under various lighting conditions.
