Abstract: Highlight•New approach based on foliar reflectance can replace petiole chemical analysis.•Number of petioles needed for reliable results is major obstacle in forming dataset.•Results show that 12 out of 13 elements can be estimated using foliar reflectance.•The approach establishes for a non-destructive sensing system at ground level.
