Automatic recognition and classification of future work sentences from academic articles in a specific domain

Abstract: Highlights•We construct a corpus of future work sentences and realize automatic recognition and classification using machine learning methods and deep learning methods.•We analyze the key research topics of future work in the NLP field by extracting the keywords of future work sentences, the adjacent verbs of the keywords are also extracted to analyze the usage behavior of keywords.•We analyze the distribution future work sentences and compare the evolution of future work sentences types in different conferences.•We analyze the effectiveness of future work sentences by measuring the similarity of the keyword sets of the future work sentences in year k and the abstract of paper in year (k+n).
