Automating Electronic Invoice Validation and Error Analysis with Knowledge Graph Technologies

Abstract: Electronic invoicing is a key aspect of modern business operations, with standards such as EDIFACT facilitating structured data exchange. Yet, EDIFACT invoices lack a standardized validation mechanism, often resulting in manual, error-prone verification processes. This work introduces a novel approach leveraging knowledge graph (KG) technologies to automate EDIFACT invoice validation. Our tool, edifact-val, transforms EDIFACT invoices into KGs and verifies compliance against predefined constraints over the KG. Empirical evaluations with real-world invoices demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach, significantly reducing manual effort while maintaining high accuracy.
