Abstract: This paper is dedicated to discussing the general difficulty of using emerging Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies to the revitalization of languages. Previous literature had described the social causes of language shift; legal prohibitions, social and economic marginalization as well as a lack of inclusion in public life have been identified as the main factors for the non-viability of minority languages. As such, as innovative as they may be, these emerging tools are not enough to rescue languages and the core issues must be addressed if meaningful results are expected.
