Study of Improved OLSR Routing Protocol in UAV Swarm

Abstract: OLSR, known as Optimized Link State Routing Protocol, is an important proactive routing protocol used in MANET networks. The core performance of the OLSR routing protocol is Multi-point Relay (MPR), which is the selected node responsible for forwarding broadcast messages during flooding to optimize the broadcast overhead of the entire network , however, the traditional MPR selection algorithm suffers from a large amount of redundancy. In this paper, we propose a new MPR set selection algorithm that makes some modifications to the MPR selection process to minimize the number of MPRs. Compared with the standard version of OLSR routing protocol, the simulation results of our proposed SROLSR have better performance under different metrics such as network load, packet delivery rate, and end-to-end delay.
