TL;DR: Discussion of Transition Zones in Double-Point Formulation for Erosion Problems
Abstract: In the Double-Point MPM formulation the solid and liquid phases are represented by separate sets of material points. In areas where saturated solid and pure liquid there is a transition zone. This transition zone can cause issues because the concentration ratios are discontinuous, and the gradient of concentration ratio are non-zero. The result of this is difficulties calculating the interaction and drag force terms. This presentation will discuss the issues by displaying the evolution of the discretized terms in the momentum balance equations with a focus on the application to internal erosion problems.
